I love the idea of fashion as an art. I use clothes to express myself, and to shape my mood (because when I think I look like Beyonce, then I feel like Beyonce). During my last semester of college I went through a self proclaimed "Quarter Life Crsis" and part of that became realizing that I would not be able to wear some of the same clothes I did as a college student in San Diego after I graduated. So, I went out that day and got three crop tops... I've since retired most of my crop tops, but I still felt like it was time for a wardrobe refresh going into the real world and the next chapter of my life. Here is some highlights from my refresh.
WHERE I SHOPPED
I love a good bargain, and I would say I have a mix of nice timeless pieces I invested in that will last forever, and some trendy shorter term things.
Forever 21: I would say about 70% of my wardrobe comes from online Forever 21. ( Online Forever 21 has cuter stuff and a wayyy bigger selection)
H&M: Almost all of my work pants from from here (check out the basic slacks).
Norstrom Rack: The only place I can scavenge and find $5 designer shirts.
Costco: Quality basics (I got a workout sweatshirt here for $20 that everyone thought I got at lulu)
My Mother's Closet: The things my mom kept from the 80's and 90's all made a comeback.
WORK ATTIRE
Everyone works differently, but for me I've always been a dress for success kind of person. When I look and feel more put together I think that it translates into my work. Here are some of favorite new things to wear to work right now (no pant suits allowed).
TURTLE NECKS
I like the look of the neckline, and it looks good with layering with sweaters and blazers. It also makes me feel like Audrey Hepburn.
BLOCK HEELS
I usually always wear heels to work, and not only are block heels cute, but I can walk around all day and my feet don't hate me.
PLAIDS
For plaids, there can be a fine line between classy career look and looking like the local librarian. I don't like a lot of color in my wardrobe, and tailored clothes are my favorite, so plaids have been my go-to recently.
CASUAL/FUN
I normally stick to wearing colors like black, white, gray. But I've recently become obsessed with cheetah and red. I'm a big texture person also, so all of the fluffy, fuzzy and fabulous things that have been out are amazing to me.
WORKOUT
Workout clothes recently became important to me. I realized when I dressed in clothes that made me feel more confident and put together, it translated into my workout. Now, I feel like I am channeling my inner insta workout influencer.
